Mathematics, Physics and Engineering
Welcome to the Southern High School (SSM) Ordinary Course in Physics, Mathematics and Engineering page.
The regular course in Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering is open to all students who want to enroll in one of the three-year degree programs in Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering at Federico II.
SSM does not offer any degree programs of its own but allows students who have won the competition for admission to the School to take supplementary supplementary courses, tutoring activities, laboratory courses and seminars aimed at strengthening students’ knowledge base.
To enter, the admission competition involves two written tests followed by an oral interview.
You must also have a grade of not less than 85/100 for secondary education.
Winners of the SSM Ordinary Course must enroll at Federico II and take both undergraduate and in-house courses at SSM, which for those enrolled in Physics, Mathematics and Engineering are complementary courses aimed at strengthening basic scientific knowledge and techniques, particularly in mathematics, physics, modeling and simulation and problem solving.
Courses for the areas of Mathematics, Physics and Engineering are common for the first three years and become diversified depending on the student’s area of science interest from the fourth year onward.
The science areas in which the curriculum will be developed from the fourth year onward are:
- Mathematical and Physical Sciences for Advanced Materials and Technologies.
- Cosmology, space science & space technology
- Modeling and Engineering Risk and Complexity
All winning students will receive free room and board in the School’s residences, tuition exemption and an annual scholarship.
Upon completion of the five-year degree program, the SSM licensure diploma has the value of a master’s degree.
To remain in the School, winning students must at the end of each year pass all exams for the academic year of their degree program at the Federico II and “internal” courses at SSM by Sept. 30 and maintain an average (weighted) exam grade point average for all courses of 27/30, never achieving grades lower than 24/30.
